Nikki recently started a PhD studentship with the Climate Change Group of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). Her current research will look into the extent of the increase of bush encroachment in the Kruger to Canyons area since the 1940s.
Prior to joining the CSIR, she was based in the lowveld at the South African Environmental Observation Network (SAEON). Working as a GIS and Data Scientist, she started gathering long-term ecological datasets for the lowveld and was involved in setting up some long-term monitoring programmes in the Kruger to Canyons area.
Nikki has also worked in numerous areas in the South African savanna on a variety of topics ranging from field guiding to research.
She completed her BSc and BSc Hons in Botany at the University of the Witwatersrand. She subsequently did her MSc at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen in the Netherlands, joining the Top Masters Program in Community and Evolutionary Ecology.
