We proudly present the launch issue of SARVA eNews, a bi-monthly e-zine specially created to forge a link between the South African Risk and Vulnerability Atlas (SARVA) and all our partners and stakeholders.
For the SARVA team the newsletter represents a milestone - it enables us to reach out far wider than we have been able to do in the first five months since the project's inception.
"We regard communication with our stakeholders as the lifeblood of our project," says SARVA Project Manager Dr Rebecca Maserumule. "We are aiming to use this newsletter to build a solid partnership with our stakeholders in bringing the latest technology-based global change solutions to bear on development throughout South Africa - locally, regionally and nationally."
SARVA is destined to become a broker between scientists and decision-makers at all levels of government. The Atlas is aimed at equipping decision-makers with information designed to support analysis on the impact and risk associated with global change in the region. It will thus provide easily understood information on global change sensitivity and vulnerability at regional, national, provincial and municipal levels.
SARVA eNews will contribute to the ongoing dialogue between the different SARVA role-players, and will keep our stakeholders and partners fully informed of the many exciting developments in this groundbreaking new project.
In this issue we tell you more about the SARVA project, its origins and its objectives. We bring you news about the first SARVA Users' Workshop, in which our stakeholders helped us map the routes to take SARVA into the future, and which resulted in a shared vision for a comprehensive SARVA system that delivers reliable and useful data. We give you a glimpse of new developments in the pipeline ... and we launch the new SARVA website.
To all our readers: This is as much your newsletter as it is ours. We invite you to help shape it by sending your input and feedback, either about the newsletter or about the Atlas itself, to the Editor: mitzi@malachite-media.co.za. We would also like to encourage you to send us the names of all your colleagues or partners who you think should be receiving this newsletter.
Once again, welcome to the first edition of SARVA eNews! The SARVA project is forging ahead, and by reading this newsletter you will stay informed ... and involved.
- The SARVA Team
